How Are Celebrities Voting? Jade Thirwall Backs Labour As Stars Urge People To Cast Their Ballot

The Little Mix singer has endorsed Jeremy Corbyn, with other stars encouraging people get out and vote.

As Britain heads to the polls, Little Mix singer Jade Thirlwall has come out in support of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

The night before the UK voted, Jade shared a video from pop group Clean Bandit in support of Corbyn, cryptically writing: “Your vote tomorrow will affect our future generation. Vote wisely.”

She also shared a rose emoji, suggesting her support was with the Labour party.

Hours later, though, Jade made her support for Corbyn more explicit, sharing a second tweet which read: “I grew up knowing the importance of taking part in our society and realising that we all have a choice and we all have a voice. I want to use my platform to encourage you to do the same and use your voice tomorrow in the General Election

“Young people are less likely to vote but it’s so important that you do and have a say in the future of your country. Who you vote for is your decision but whatever you do, make sure you use your vote.”

Jade continued: “I will be voting Labour tomorrow for many reasons but firstly because I believe in their manifesto. Coming from a working class background, I know it’s important that we have a government which supports everyone and not the few. We need to save our NHS.

“Labour believes in funding the arts. They support the fight against climate change. Their manifesto supports equality and the LGBT community. Whoever and however you vote tomorrow, be proud of your choice and use your voice.”

Fellow British singer Dua Lipa has also pledged her support for Jeremy Corbyn in a string of social media posts, writing earlier this month: “Our democracy is strongest when everyone’s voice is heard. This is the most important election in a generation and YOUR vote counts.”

The day before the election, Dua urged her followers to vote once again, writing: “MOST IMPORTANT ELECTION IN THE UK IS TOMORROW! PLEASE GET OUT, VOTE and in the nicest way possible...please don’t vote for the fucking tories #VoteLabour”

Among Corbyn’s most high-profile supporters is Stormzy, who has repeatedly used his platform to urge his followers to vote for the Labour party, recently co-signing a letter in The Guardian about why he’s backing the leader of the opposition.

Prime minister Boris Johnson also has a number of celebrity supporters, which includes businessman and star of The Apprentice, Alan Sugar.

The former Labour peer has said he has endorsed Boris Johnson, in the hope that losing the election would lead to Jeremy Corbyn stepping down as leader.

His aide Claude Littner has also backed Boris Johnson, tweeting last month: “All that is required is to vote Conservative!”

The Liberal Democrats also have some support from Countdown star Rachel Riley, who is among Corbyn’s most prolific critics.

Steve Coogan and Hugh Grant have also both spoken out in favour of a tactical vote, with the former saying he would be voting for the Lib Dems and the latter even campaigning with Lib Dem MP Luciana Berger.
