Here’s a sentence we’ll bet you didn’t expect to read today - Danny Dyer is set to present a new history series for the BBC.
The ‘EastEnders’ star will be looking back at his “faaaaamily” history in ‘Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family’, after it was previously revealed he is a direct descendant of Edward III.
The series see him exploring the lives of his ancestors, as he learns how to hunt, tries out cuisines of times gone by and dresses up in period costumes.
In typical Danny Dyer style, he described the show as a “nutty experience”.
He said (via the Guardian): “I’m still in shock at the fact that I’m related to such important people. I’ve had a ball getting to know them.”
BBC history commissioner, Simon Young, added: “Danny is just an incredible talent and he has an amazing history in his family tree; what better way to get people to look at and understand that royal history than through his eyes.
“It injects fun and I think we need that.”
Danny discovered he was a royal descendent during an appearance on the BBC’s ancestry series ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ in 2016.
As well as being related to Edward III, it was also revealed he is a descendant of William the Conqueror and Thomas Cromwell.
Danny has fitted the new series around his commitments to ‘EastEnders’, where he plays pub landlord Mick Carter.
However, it was recently announced he will take a break from filming the soap in the new year to take to the stage.
He will star in two plays, ‘Freeman in The Dumb Waiter’ and ‘A Slight Ache’, as part of a season celebrating playwright Harold Pinter.
Danny will also appear in a new stage adaptation of ‘Nativity’ alongside his daughter and ‘Love Island’ winner, Dani Dyer, over the Christmas period.
