Danny Dyer couldn’t resist bring up his own royal heritage as he came face to face with Prince Charles at the Prince’s Trust Awards.

Back in 2016, Danny discovered during an appearance on Who Do You Think You Are? that he is a descendent of Edward III, leading to an absolutely classic reaction from the EastEnders actor’s wife.

As he met Prince Charles before the awards on Wednesday afternoon, he couldn’t help but bring up the fact the two share a bloodline, telling the royal: “I’m in EastEnders. Just wanted to let you know we’re related as well. King Edward III is my grandfather – but I won’t go into it. No he is, on my life.”

When Charles pointed out Danny’s relation to Richard III was “a very long way away”, he responded: “I know, I know.”

Danny made a further reference to the “family reunion” during the ceremony itself, telling those in attendance: “When your cousin Charlie makes the call, you’ve got to help your family out, you know what I mean?”

Later, Charles revealed he’d discovered a new “long-lost relation with Danny Dyer”, adding: “I must do some research when I get back.”

The soap actor’s Who Do You Think You Are? appearance also led him to discover he’s a descendent of William The Conqueror, while yet more intriguing famuily history emerged when Danny landed his own documentary series earlier this year.

In Danny Dyer’s Right Royal Family, he learned about his great-great-great-great (there’s 26 of them in total, so we’ll leave that one there) grandfather King Louis IX, perhaps better known as Saint Louis of France, an actual Catholic saint.
