Not exactly uncanny.

Having your very own statue has got to be up there as the ultimate accolade for famous types.

But as much of Madame Tussauds’ stock reveals, capturing the likeness of a star is often where the dream turns into the stuff of nightmares.

Just ask David Beckham.

The football icon’s face said it all when a statue of his good self was revealed ahead of its official unveiling at LA Galaxy’s stadium.

Except this wasn’t the actual finished statue, but a seriously unflattering imposter that James Corden had commissioned in a bid to prank the former Golden Balls for a skit on The Late Late Show.

Terrifying.

After the fake statue was revealed - complete with stretched face and massive arse - all a horrified David could muster was that he looked like “Stretch Armstrong”.

He added: “It’s slightly different than it was when I saw it in Chicago.”

The fake sculptor told the footballer: “I believe, what I did here was try to capture you in motion.” To which a crestfallen David replied: “Yeah but there was capturing me in motion but also making me… look at my chin!”

He then told the sculptor: “I don’t want to offend you but this is such a big thing for me. It’s taken a year to get to this point. There is no way that can go in front of the stadium. It’s embarrassing.”

Thankfully, at this point, a forklift truck appeared and tore the monstrosity down, much to Becks’ delight.

And as for the real statue? Here it is outside the Dignity Health Sports Park in California.
