With everything that’s gone on in the world of ‘Great British Bake Off’ in the past 24 hours, attention has briefly been taken away from who will replace Mel and Sue in presenting the upcoming eighth series of the show.
However, amid the furore that surrounded Mary Berry’s departure from ‘Bake Off’ and Paul Hollywood jumping ship to Channel 4, Davina McCall appeared on ‘This Morning’ to discuss rumours she was being lined up to take over as host.
On Wednesday morning (22 September), Davina insisted that she wouldn’t be landing the job as presenter of ‘Bake Off’, as it would contradict her sugar-free lifestyle.
She laughed off the question when asked about joining the show by Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield, saying: “No! I can’t… like, I’m sugar-free. Can you imagine? Trying this cake, ‘has it got sugar in it?’ It would be terrible for me!”
Davina was first rumoured for the job last week, when a source told The Mirror: “Davina is already golden girl at Channel 4 after working on some of its biggest hits and so is at the top of bosses’ wishlist.”
The TV personality dismissing the idea of presenting ‘Bake Off’ still leaves a number of names in the frame, with ‘Extra Slice’ host Jo Brand and sports presenter Clare Balding both having been linked with a spot.
Jamie Oliver previously downplayed reports he was also being lined up for ‘Bake Off’, claiming he “couldn’t do it if he wanted to” because of his hectic schedule.
‘This Morning’ airs weekdays on ITV from 10.30am.

She was also named the bookies' favourite, more or less as soon as Mel and Sue announced they were stepping down.
On Twitter, hers is the name we keep seeing crop up time and time again, either from people crying out for her to get the job, or pleading with Channel 4 not to give it to her.
In our opinion, it would be a bit too obvious, though, but we'd definitely be in favour of her forming a new double act with runner-up Tamal, with whom she got along like a house on fire in their days on 'GBBO'.
Like Nadiya, he too has managed to bag himself a career in TV, so we wouldn't be surprised if the offer fell at his feet either.
Julian is the undisputed king of innuendo, and his soft-spoken style lends itself perfectly to the 'Bake Off' tent.
He's also become a dab hand at light entertainment since his 'CBB' days, appearing on the panel of 'Your Face Sounds Familiar', as well as fronting 'Nature Nuts' and appearing on 'Give A Dog A Home'.
Hmmm.... maybe not.
Emma must be so stressed out interviewing the stars of 'Celebrity Big Brother' twice a year that we'd be quite happy for her to land a presenting gig that's a bit more... calming.
