Davina McCall Rules Herself Out As Bake Off Host

Fitness fanatic Davina McCall has quashed rumours that she will be the next presenter of The Great British Bake Off, pointing out that the job would not be a sweet deal for her image.

The TV presenter, who is about to head into a fourth season of Channel 4 celebrity winter sports contest The Jump, is well known for her healthy ways, and told Jonathan Ross that would rule her out of fronting the cake contest, which will leave the BBC after its current run.

Presenters Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins will not be following the series to its new home on Channel 4, but McCall said in an interview for The Jonathan Ross Show that it would not be the right gig for her.

She said: "I have not been approached and I have to say that would be tough wouldn't it, after Mel and Sue, because they were amazing."

Asked whether she would take the job if offered it, the 48-year-old replied: "I haven't really thought about it, I love the show but it's cakes and I'm sugar free really.

"I love watching it and I think, 'Ooh I could make a sugar free version of that'. [But] you've got to try them, haven't you."

McCall wrote diet guide Davina's 5 Weeks To Sugar-Free and has made numerous home fitness DVDs, so when Ross asked: "So on a sugar level you'd have to say no?", she said: "I think I'd probably have to."

Ross questioned whether a Bake Off job offer might be a poisoned chalice and she agreed: "A little bit, [I promote] healthy eating but [on the show] I'm just going to have a little bit of this cake."

Guests on this week's show also include actor Jamie Dornan, comedian Rob Beckett and some of the cast of Netflix sci-fi hit Stranger Things.

:: The Jonathan Ross Show airs on ITV on Saturday at 10.20pm.
