Donald Trumpβs many appearances on Howard Sternβs radio show are the fountain of filth that keeps on giving, providing valuable insight into the nomineeβs character with every newly resurrected clip.
On Thursday, The Daily Beast reported that Trump had repeatedly described actress Marlee Matlin as βretardedβ during her time on βThe Apprenticeβ in Season 11. The Trump campaign has yet to comment on the claim, but Trump appears to have a history of calling people the R-word.
In a September 2004 visit to βThe Howard Stern Show,β Trump called his golf instructor βmentally retardedβ while recalling his salary negotiations with NBC for his reality show:
Trump: I said, well wait a minute, lets go a little further. My ratings are higher than βFriendsβ now β by a lot. And the other thing is itβs an hour program. And βFriendsβ as you know is a half-hour.
Stern: Thatβs right.
Trump: And you know who told me that one? I have a golf pro whoβs mentally retarded. I mean heβs really not a smart guy. And Iβm playing golf and Iβm thinking about what Iβm going to tell NBC, and this golf-pro comes up to me and he tells me, βYeah but your show is an hour and βFriendsβ is a half-hour.β
Trumpβs use of this language appears to be habitual. In an earlier visit to Sternβs show that April, Trump used the slur for an unnamed reporter who criticized his business skills.
Meanwhile, the clip also showcases his propensity for lying β as βFriendsβ averaged 22.8 million viewers during the 2003-2004 television season, while βThe Apprenticeβ averaged only 20.7 million.
Editorβs note: Donald Trump regularly incites political violence and is a serial liar, rampant xenophobe, racist, misogynist and birther who has repeatedly pledged to ban all Muslims β 1.6 billion members of an entire religion β from entering the U.S.
