Emilia Clarke has hailed a group of Game Of Thrones fans as “heroes”, after they raised more than £78,000 to help her charity.

Last week, it was reported that Game Of Thrones devotees had organised a fundraiser for Emilia’s charity, SameYou, intended as a “gesture of love and support”, and to show their issues with the show’s final series did not lie with the cast.

After learning about the money that had been raised, Emilia posted an excited video on Instagram, thanking those who donated.

“I can’t believe it, I’m so incredibly moved and blown away and grateful,” she said. “Thank you and thank you and thank you. It’s extraordinary what you guys have done. You’ve given me a wrap gift, that is what this is. I’m genuinely completely lost for words.”

She added: “You guys are helping me and in doing that you are helping us change the world, change the world of recovery and change the world of brain injury.”

Emilia also wrote on Instagram: “I couldn’t think of a more beautiful way to wave goodbye to the mother of dragons than with this step towards making brain injury sufferers feel less alone.

“YOU ARE MY HEROS. I am the one who should be bending the knee to you [sic]”

At the time of Emilia’s post, the actress said the total was at £38,000, but this figure now stands at over £78,000 at the time of writing.

SameYou was launched earlier this year, after Emilia went public with her own experiences of brain aneurysms, which occurred in the early years of Game Of Thrones, in 2011 and 2013.

The JustGiving page set up by reddit user ‘Elle Ellaria’ described the fundraiser as “a gesture of love and support from the fandom to the entire cast and crew, but also particularly to the woman who poured her very soul into her character, who delivered passionate speeches in High Valyrian and Dothraki in between questioning her very mortality, and inspired so many of us with her resilience”.
