Emmerdale actor Asan N’Jie has been fired from the ITV soap after he was filmed in an altercation with Hollyoaks star Jamie Lomas at the TV Choice Awards.

The pair clashed at the showbiz event on Monday night, where Asan was filmed swearing and throwing punches at Jamie.

An ITV spokesperson confirmed Asan’s contract has now been terminated “with immediate effect”, after previously announcing a full investigation.

They told The Sun: “Emmerdale suspended Asan N’Jie yesterday pending further investigation into an incident at a central London hotel on Monday night.

“ITV executives have met with him this morning and as a consequence Asan’s contract has been terminated with immediate effect.”

In a statement, Asan – who played Ellis Chapman on the soap – said his behaviour had been “unacceptable” and offered an apology to Jamie, as well as his Emmerdale co-stars and the show’s viewers.

“My behaviour at the TV Choice Awards was completely unacceptable and very much out of character,” he said.

“I sincerely apologise to everybody who has been affected especially Jamie Lomas, the whole Emmerdale team, our audience, ITV, my family, and the organisers of the TV Choice Awards.

“I am devastated, accept full responsibility for my actions and I am determined to learn from this.”

The incident happened after Monday’s ceremony, which took place at the Hilton Park Lane in Mayfair, London.

Asan was among the night’s nominees, having received a nod in the Best Newcomer category for a storyline in which his character was stabbed, though he lost out to EastEnders newbie Kara-Leah Fernandes.

He was also present in a cast photo taken with a number of his fellow Emmerdale co-stars shortly after the long-running show was awarded Best Soap.

Jamie, who has played Hollyoaks villain Warren Fox on and off for more than a decade, is yet to publicly comment on the altercation.
