Four In Hospital After Hotel On Banks Of Loch Lomond Hit By Fire

Four people are being treated in hospital after a fire broke out at a five-star hotel on the banks of Loch Lomond.

Dozens of firefighters were called to Cameron House at around 6.40am on Monday.

Two adults and a child, believed to be from one family, were taken to hospital in Glasgow for treatment, while a fourth patient was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

Pictures on social media showed guests and staff standing outside the hotel while emergency services took control of the area.

Firefighters could also be seen tackling the blaze in the roof of the hotel from an aerial unit.

A spokesman for the Scottish Ambulance Service said: “We received a call at 6.44am today to attend an incident at the Cameron House Hotel.

“We dispatched four ambulances, our special operations response team and the trauma team to the scene.

“Three patients, two adults and one child, were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital.

“A fourth patient was taken to the Royal Alexandra Hospital.”

Police said other guests were treated at the scene for smoke inhalation.

The hotel is a popular wedding venue and houses the Michelin star Martin Wishart at Loch Lomond restaurant.

On its Facebook page, Cameron House said the fire was within the main building.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said officers were carrying out a search of the building, which has more than 130 bedrooms.

A spokeswoman said: “Operations Control has mobilised a total of 12 appliances to the scene.

“Firefighters are currently in the process of searching the building while fighting the fire using powerful water jets.

“The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service remains in attendance.”

The hotel will be closed for at least the next two days.

A message on the Cameron House website said: “Due to an ongoing incident please be aware that Cameron House will remain closed to arriving guests for at least the next 48 hours.

“We would ask all guests and customers to remain patient as we work with the emergency services to establish the extent of the damage and ascertain when we will be able to re-open.”
