'Great British Bake Off': Ruby Bhogal Tricked Into Revealing Winner By Fake Sandi Toksvig Twitter Account

Well, it wouldn't be the first time the winner had been prematurely announced...

Remember last year when ‘Great British Bake Off’ judge Prue Leith infamously let slip who had been crowned winner, hours before the final aired?

Well, semi-finalist Ruby Bhogal came close to suffering a similar fate, after falling for an online hoax.

Ruby was tricked by an online account pretending to be presenter Sandi Toksvig, who slid into her DMs to ask about the outcome of the final, as reported by The Sun.

The newspaper didn’t disclose who Ruby revealed the winner to have been, but did say that the account pretending to be Sandi has now been suspended by Twitter.

A ‘Great British Bake Off’ spokesperson declined to comment when contacted by HuffPost UK.

Last year, due to a mix-up involving time zones, Prue accidentally congratulated winner Sophie Faldo on Twitter, hours before the public was told that she was the year’s ‘Bake Off’ champ, telling PA immediately afterwards: “I’m in too much of a state to talk about it.”

In the most recent instalment of ‘Bake Off’, Ruby was finally named Star Baker for the first time, making it through to the semi-final alongside Rahul, Kim-Joy and Briony.

It was Manon who judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith decided to send home, although some viewers took issue with the decision, suggesting that other competitors had as bad a week as her, but got off more lightly.

However, even though the fans were divided by the outcome of the episode, everyone loved the contestants wearing Hawaiian shirts in tribute to the recently-eliminated Jon.

‘The Great British Bake Off’ continues on Tuesday night at 8pm on Channel 4.
