'Great British Bake Off' Fans Are All Making The Same Joke Ahead Of This Year's Final

Poor old Prue.

It may now be a whole year since Prue Leith’s now-infamous ‘Great British Bake Off’ gaffe, but she’s still not managing to live it down.

With hours to go until the final of the current series, fans of the show on Twitter are having are a field day making light of the blunder, which saw the judge prematurely revealing who had won on the social media site.

Everyone has been making similar jokes about Prue keeping off Twitter in the lead-up to the big announcement, and while it’s certainly not clever or sophisticated humour, it has been raising some laughs...

Prue even got in on the joke herself, tweeting:

Prue previously agreed she should have her phone confiscated ahead of the final this year, as the aftermath of prematurely tweeting the winner had been a “very scary and horrible” time.

In an interview with this week’s Radio Times, she said: “I had so many people saying, ‘You ruined my life, how could you?’”

She had been on holiday in Bhutan with her husband when the production company sent her a message telling her to remember to congratulate the winner after 10.30pm, but she got the time zones muddled up.

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, it’s after 10.30.’ And so I immediately tweeted. And of course it was five hours out or something,” she said.

“But it was too late,” she says. “Two people had retweeted it, saying, ‘How disgraceful, she has given away the secret.’ And then they gave it away!

“Stupid,” she added. “So stupid… Although I’m getting nervous as we’ve now done the final, so I’m a liability. I think I should have my phone taken away from me.”

‘The Great British Bake Off’ final airs tonight at 8pm on Channel 4.
