Greg James Resumes Sport Relief ‘Gregathlon’

He's on the road again after secretly journeying back to the point where it was all called off.

Almost a fortnight after being forced to call off his Sport Relief challenge due to worsening weather, Greg James has hit the road again, to finish the final leg of the ‘Gregathlon’.

Having trained for months, the Radio 1 host had set off earlier this month to climb the Three Peaks and cycle the distance between them.

However, when the “Beast from the East” hit the UK, he was left with no choice but to end the challenge, before having the chance to conquer Ben Nevis.

Having teased that an announcement was coming, he appeared on Radio 1 on Wednesday (14 March) morning, announcing that he was resuming the challenge.

But rather than revealing a future date for the feat, Greg surprised fans with the news that he was getting back on a bike that very second.

“Today, right now, we’re going to do it,” he told Nick Grimshaw, “We have secretly got to a place where I had to call the whole thing off, I’m standing in the same spot I was two weeks ago.”

Having cycled all day today, the presenter has another day of cycling on Thursday (15 March), before scaling Ben Nevis on Friday (16 March).

Just days after calling off the initial attempt, Greg told HuffPost UK it had been one of the most surreal weeks of his career.

“I’d been training for months, I didn’t want to let people down, I didn’t want to not complete the challenge, that’s how I felt,” he said. “I was feeling great about it, I thought I could do it. So to be cut down by the weather, was very frustrating.

So far, Greg has raised over £700,000 for Sport Relief. He isn’t the only famous face to have taken on a huge challenge for the cause and Zoe Ball recently completed her own, finishing a 350-mile cycle ride.
