If You See This Post On Instagram Don't Fall For It

Don't be fooled.

Instagram users are panicking following the platform's promised changes that could alter what we see in our feeds.

Our timeline of images will soon be based more on our likes rather than the chronology in which the pictures were posted.

This means certain brands and bloggers may find their posts getting fewer views and a result, several are asking users to 'Turn On Post Notifications.'

Don't be tempted to succumb to this request.

Turning on post notifications will essentially flood your phone with alerts every time there is a new post from a particular user - a terrifying notion for those of us who already have phones that light up every 30 seconds.

Secondly, despite panicked users telling followers that the changes are happening "tomorrow," we're not really sure when it will be rolled out.

In response, Instagram tweeted: "We're listening and we assure you nothing is changing with your feed right now."

Begging users to turn on post notifications also misses the entire point of what Instagram is aiming to do with the changes.

The platform said introducing an algorithm, similar to Facebook's, will allow you to see the posts you care about the most, first.

"The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post," Instagram stated.

To clarify, you will still be able to see all every single post from the people you follow.

"As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order."
