Police are appealing for information relating the murder of Janice Weston, who was found dead in Cambridgeshire 35 years ago today.
The 36-year-old’s body was found in a ditch near Brampton on 11 September 1983 and officers from the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Major Crime Unit are conducting a fresh review into the case, exploring new forensic opportunities.
Weston was a solicitor and living in London when she died. She was last seen alive at her office at around 4.15pm, on the day before her body was found. Her car was missing at the time of her death, but was later discovered abandoned in London.
A postmortem found Weston died after suffering a blunt force trauma to the head.
An extensive police investigation was carried out at the time and a reconstruction was aired on ‘Crimewatch’, but nobody was ever convicted for the murder.
A police appeal posted on Facebook reads: “We’re keen to speak to anyone who came forward during the original investigation but maybe did not tell us everything they knew, or those who spoke to Crimewatch but not directly to police.”
Assistant investigator Kelly Knibbs told ITV News: “We’re now 35 years on from Janice’s death, but no unsolved murder investigation is ever closed.
“We’ve been conducting a review of the case and are keen to hear from anyone who may have any information about what happened.
“In addition to any new information, we’re also keen to speak to people who came forward during the original investigation but maybe did not tell us everything they knew, or those who spoke to Crimewatch but not directly to police.”
