Kate Garraway has received a wave of support from her ITV colleagues, following her heartbreaking interview on Good Morning Britain.

On Friday, Kate was interviewed by her usual co-presenter Ben Shephard, marking her first appearance on the daytime show since her husband Derek Draper was diagnosed with coronavirus in March.

Since then, Derek has been in intensive care, and while Kate has said he’s now free of Covid-19, she said the disease had “wreaked extraordinary damage” on his body.

“It’s like the doctors manage one bit extraordinarily well and there seems to be a flicker of hope and then other things emerge and they’re fighting that and it’s affected him from the top of his head to the tip of his toes,” she said.

Kate continued: “Let’s look at some of the positives. He is now Covid-free. So he’s testing negative for the Covid virus. So the fight with the virus has been won and he’s still here. But it’s wreaked extraordinary damage on his body and we don’t know if he can recover from that, basically.”

Following the emotional interview, a number of Kate’s colleagues, including Lorraine Kelly, Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid, spoke out about the bravery she’d shown.

So proud of our [Kate] - speaking with bravery and from the heart about her husband Derek’s fight against Covid-19,” Lorraine said. “Please everyone take care of yourselves amid this crisis.”

The official Twitter pages for Loose Women and Lorraine also shared messages of support with Kate:

Kate and Derek, who are both 52, married in 2005 and have a 14-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son, Darcey and William.
