Katie Price has praised ex-husband Peter Andre for “stepping up” amid her son Harvey’s recent health scare.

The 18-year-old was rushed to hospital earlier this month with a fever and difficulty breathing, and it was later revealed that he had been taken into the intensive care unit, where he remained for a number of days.

With Harvey now out of ICU, Katie has told of her Peter’s wish to pay Harvey a visit.

Speaking to New magazine, she said: “Over the years we’ve had our ups and downs, but Pete has been really supportive about it.

“He’s asked to go to the hospital. He can’t do it without me, so he’ll come and visit Harvey with me.”

She added: “Regardless of our ups and downs, the fact that he’s stepped it up - I see his feelings as being really genuine.”

Katie – who was married to Peter from 2005 to 2009 after meeting on I’m A Celebrity – has been keeping fans updated on Harvey’s condition on social media over the last few days.

On Saturday, she posted a video of the two of them in hospital, in which she asks him: “Harv, what do you want to say to all those people who have sent you lovely messages?”

Harvey – who has Prader-Willi syndrome and autism – then expressed his thanks to his supporters, and agreed with his mum that he was doing “a lot better”.

In the comments, Katie and Peter’s son Junior was seen celebrating the fact his “big bro” was “doing so well”, while her ex-husband Kieran Hayler wrote: “Happy he is on the mend. Strong boy.”

It was recently revealed that Katie and Harvey were to appear in a new BBC documentary, Katie Price: Harvey & Me, which will aim to shine a light on “what it’s really like to be a mum of a disabled child approaching adulthood”, as Harvey moves “from child to adult services”.

She tweeted: “I had a tough year last year! A person stirred trouble with me and Pete which he reacted to protect our children!

“Yes I said things but I was upset and didn’t mean harm! Me and Pete love each other really lol !I’m sorry @MrPeterAndre if I hurt you!”

Peter responded to this with his own tweet, writing: “Do you know what, I really appreciate you saying that. Thank you.”
