Labour Party Deletes Tweet Celebrating St George's Day On The Wrong Day

The tweet was sent out a day early.

A Labour Party attempt to spread bank holiday cheer backfired after they sent out a tweet celebrating St George’s day – on the wrong day.

The tweet reiterated a proposal for bank holidays for all the patron saints, but drew attention for being posted the day before the actual celebration.

“Happy St George’s Day!” a tweet on the official account read.

“With the next Labour government, we’ll celebrate the patron saint with a bank holiday – and bank holidays for St Patrick, St David and St Andrew too.

“Sound good? Share the news.”

The tweet, sent in error, was later deleted.

It follows another Twitter blunder a few days ago, in which the party deleted a post celebrating the Jewish festival of passover which featured an icon of a loaf of bread along with the star of David and a glass of wine.

Twitter users pointed out that Jews are forbidden from eating leavened bread during the holiday.

It was later replaced with a text post.

Tory MP Michael Fabricant wasted no time in labelling the party ‘dummies’.

He tweeted: “St George’s Day is on the 23rd, not the 22nd Dummies! This follows a tweet from Labour with a Start of David and a loaf of bread for passover when the rule is you DON’T eat leavened bread. That tweet was then deleted.”
