Leicester City Win Confuses American TV Show Hosts Who Claim Tottenham As Premier League Victors

Well, that's embarrassing.

An American TV anchor made an embarrassing gaffe after he said that Tottenham Hotspur had won the Premier League on Monday night, rather than Leicester City.

The ESPN presenter was introducing the upcoming football segment when the programme cut to a clip of cheering fans in a pub.

The anchor said: "Still ahead on Sports Centre, you talk about unprobable (sic), this is the reaction today when Tottenham won the EPL."

His confusion may have originated from the fact that Tottenham was playing Chelsea on Monday night, which ended in a 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge.

The outcome of that match determined whether Leicester City, who were given odds of 5,000-1 at the start of the season, would win the Premier League title.

Their win was huge news for thousands of fans, but it seems that not everyone was paying such close attention.

Most people could not believe the blunder.

But ESPN were not the only ones to have reported on last night's win incorrectly.

Australian TV channel Nine News mistakenly labelled Monday's match the "grand final".

Claudio Ranieri’s team were 5000-1 outsiders at the beginning of the season, so anyone who placed £20 on them would now be £100,000 better off.

The result means bookmakers William Hill will be paying out £2.2 million pounds.
