A 20-year-old man who died on a London Tube carriage after being stabbed on a station platform in an unprovoked attack by two men has been named by British Transport Police as Tashan Daniel.

Officers were called to Hillingdon Station shortly before 4pm on Tuesday following a report of a serious assault on the platform.

Members of the London Ambulance Service and air ambulance attended the scene and found the man with a serious injury consistent with being stabbed.

He was declared dead at the scene, and his family have been informed.

In a statement on Wednesday, BTP said: “Officers were called to Hillingdon London underground station at 3:58pm yesterday afternoon after reports of a fight on the station platform.

“Paramedics were quickly on scene, and alongside police officers and members of the public, attempted to save Tashan. However, despite their best efforts, he very sadly died on board a Tube carriage.”

The police said that the investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made at this time.

“It is currently believed that Tashan and a friend were waiting for a London-bound Piccadilly Line train as they were heading to an Arsenal football match,” the police said. “Two other men then entered the station.

“The two unknown men then provoked a fight with the victim and his friend – at one point, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and stabbed Tashan.

“Both suspects then left the station in the direction of Auriol Drive, where they were seen by other members of the public. A knife was recovered nearby.”

Detective Superintendent Gary Richardson, from British Transport Police, called the attack a “shocking act of violence”.

BTP detective chief inspector Sam Blackburn, the senior investigating officer, said: “Tashan was an upstanding young man. He had only just celebrated his 20th birthday and was heading into London to watch Arsenal play. He did not deserve to lose his life during this senseless attack.

“His family are completely broken by this news and we are doing everything we can to offer them support. Over the coming days we will have extra officers on patrol in the Hillingdon area and detectives are in the local area today, speaking with residents.”

The police have appealed to anyone who might have seen anything suspicious to get in touch by texting 61016 or calling 0800 40 50 40 quoting reference 382 of 24/09/19. Alternatively, members of the public can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

The police are also appealing to any motorist with dashcam footage from Auriol Drive or outside Hillingdon station from approximately 3:45pm to 4pm Tuesday.
