A senior Love Island boss has spoken out about the possibility of Caroline Flack returning to the show in the future.

Caroline has fronted all five series of the ITV2 reality show, but stepped down from the upcoming sixth run last month, after she was arrested and charged with assault.

She said at the time: “In order not to detract attention from the upcoming series I feel the best thing I can do is stand down for series six.

“I want to wish the incredible team working on the show a fantastic series in Cape Town.”

While Laura Whitmore is set to host the first winter series when it debuts later this week, ITV2’s commissioning editor Amanda Stavri has made it clear that she’d be happy to see Caroline back in the future.

She told The Mirror: “We are continuing to talk to Caroline. We are in constant contact and the door is open.”

Meanwhile, Laura Whitmore recently revealed she received a text from Caroline Flack shortly after she stepped down from the show, saying she hoped that she would land the job in her absence.

When Caroline stepped down she actually sent me a text message saying, ’I really hope you get to do this series,” she told The MIrror.

She also revealed that she’d had to ask for her mum’s permission to meet with ITV2, as she was supposed to be flying home to Ireland for her birthday.

The sixth series of Love Island debuts on ITV2 on Sunday night.
