Love Island bosses have clarified reports that contestant Amy Hart has “left the villa”, to seek psychological help after her romance with Curtis Pritchard came to an end.
Earlier in the week, viewers saw Amy particularly upset after learning that Curtis’ head had turned while they were separated as part of the show’s Casa Amor twist, despite being his “half-girlfriend”.
Following the show’s latest dramatic instalment, The Mirror reported on Friday that Amy had “left the villa” (emphasising the word “left” in capital letters) in order to speak to a therapist, having been particularly upset about the way things played out.
Speaking to HuffPost UK, a Love Island rep has denied reports that Amy had left the villa, while also issuing a statement about the show’s attitude to the Islanders’ welfare.
They told us: “We take the emotional well-being of all the Islanders extremely seriously.
“We have dedicated welfare producers and psychological support on hand at all times who monitor and regularly speak to all of the Islanders in private and off camera, especially if someone appears to be upset. All the Islanders are therefore fully supported by the professionals on site and by their friends in the villa.
“This means Islanders are always able to reach out and talk to someone if they feel the need. We will of course continue to monitor all of our Islanders in line with our robust protocols.”
They added: “Love Island holds a mirror up to relationships and all the different dynamics that go with them.”
The shocking recoupling episode, which aired earlier this week, has so far sparked almost 200 complaints to Ofcom, after both Amy and fellow contestant Amber Gill were left in tears.
So far this series, viewers have also complained to the media watchdog about the way Amber and Anna Vakili spoke to Danny Williams, following his choice to recouple with Arabalela Chi, as well as Maura Higgins’ advances towards Tommy Fury.
