Love Island's Anton Blames Being Scottish For His Bad Chat Up Lines, And Scotland Has Something To Say About It

He tried to claim his words had been lost in translation.

Love Island contestant Anton Danyluk hasn’t had much luck with women since arriving in the villa, and his latest attempts at flirting have riled his home nation of Scotland.

Wednesday night’s episode of the ITV2 reality show saw the 24-year-old gym owner blame being Scottish for his bad chat up lines not working on Anna Vakili.

She was (quite rightly) not impressed when Anton told her he was physically attracted to fellow contestant Molly-Mae Hague, but he would rather be with Anna even though she isn’t his “absolute type on paper”.

He said: “As much as Molly is my type, she’s beautiful from the outside-in, you’re beautiful on the inside and out. You’re not necessarily my absolute type on paper but Molly, who is someone who is my type, I still wouldn’t want to be with someone like that.”

Put out by Anton’s comments, Anna told Michael Griffiths and Amber Gill what he’d said to her, who then sat Anton down to tell him that wasn’t exactly the best way of trying to win Anna’s affections.

However, Anton didn’t seem to accept this was the case, and reflecting on his words in the Beach Hut, he claimed something lost in translation between the Scottish and English – despite them both, you know, speaking the same language.

“In Scotland, this works,” he said.

Cue hordes of Scottish people on Twitter insisting that a) it has nothing to do with nationality, and b) it definitely does not work in Scotland:

Anton has been trying to woo Anna following the sudden exit of Sherif Lanre, which has left her single.

But while Anna is currently in a vulnerable position – especially after the arrival of two new bombshells – it doesn’t seem like she’ll be coupling up with Anton any time soon.

Last night’s show also saw the new Islanders, Elma Pazar and Maura Higgins, enjoy a series of dates with a number of the boys, with Maura taking a shine to Tommy Fury – much to the disgust of Molly-Mae.

Love Island continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2.
