Love Island's Megan Barton Hanson Suggests Bosses Were 'Put Off' When She Revealed She Is Bisexual

She first auditioned for the show a year before she actually made it into the villa.

Former Love Island star Megan Barton Hanson has revealed she is bisexual, claiming she was originally turned down by the show when she disclosed that she was attracted to both men and women.

Megan appeared on the fourth series of the ITV2 reality show last year, eventually making it through to the final with now-ex-boyfriend Wes Nelson.

However, in a new interview with The Sun, Megan said she first auditioned for the show a year earlier, but suggested she was turned away after telling bosses she is bisexual.

I was super open and said I feel like I’m more into girls, but I think that’s what put them off,” Megan admitted.

She went on to say that on her second try, she disclosed her history of working as a stripper and webcam model, but decided not to reveal that she is interested in men and women.

Megan said: “In Love Island I already felt I had a stigma attached to me because of being a stripper.

“I didn’t want to, like, add to it by revealing I like girls as well! But now I feel like everyone has accepted that and to be honest, I don’t care what people think.

I feel like I just need to be a bit brave now and say it how it is. It’s so easy to let fear of people’s opinions stop you from being true to yourself.”

So far, Love Island has only seen one same-sex couple pair up in the villa, when Katie Salmon and the late Sophie Gradon were briefly an item during the show’s second series.

A Love Island boss has controversially said he doesn’t anticipate featuring LGBTQ+ relationships on the show in the future, claiming he feels “the format doesn’t really allow it”.

Having made it to the Love Island final last year, Megan is now gearing up to appear on the next series of Celebs Go Dating, alongside former co-star Jack Fincham.

Love Island airs Sunday through Friday nights on ITV2.
