Love Island’s Shaughna Phillips had been one of the stand-out contestants of this series, but she divided fans with her antics on Wednesday night.

The democratic services officer had to think on her feet when new arrival Rebecca Gormley revealed an interest in Shaughna’s partner Callum Jones.

After she’d pulled Callum aside for a chat, in which he reassured her his eggs were solely in her basket, she took steps to nip any further flirting in the bud.

Grabbing Callum’s phone, Shaughna then said she would draft up a speech for him to give to Rebecca to reject her advances.

Explaining her reasons, she said in the Beach Hut: “I want her to literally forget Callum exists.”

Callum then read out the message Shaughna had composed, which said: “So basically, I feel like when I spoke to you earlier, I told you I was happy with Shaughna but I think I need to elaborate on it.

“I’m closed off from getting to know anyone else, because all my eggs are in Shaughna’s basket. And the basket is locked safe – so locked, it’s laughable.

“Thanks for the time and have a smashing day... PS. Get back!”

Some viewers found Shaughna’s message hilarious...

Others did not think Shaughna and Callum are right for one another...

Others said Shaughna’s behaviour displayed warning signs...

Whatever viewers’ thoughts, Shaughna’s actions had the desired effect, as Callum soon told Rebecca he was no longer keen on pursuing anything with her.

Rebecca then moved her attentions on to Finley Tapp, before locking lips with Connagh Howard at the end of the episode.

But with a recoupling looming and two new boys on their way to the villa (not to mention the fact host Laura Whitmore is currently in South Africa ready to make a surprise appearance), who knows what’s set to happen in the coming days.

Love Island continues on Thursday at 9pm on ITV.
