Sherif Lanre has left the Love Island villa after breaking one of the show’s rules.

Bosses confirmed they have “mutually agreed” with Sherif that he should leave the ITV2 reality show after just nine days, although the exact details of what led to their decision remain unclear.

A spokesperson for the show said: “After breaking the villa rules Sherif had conversations with the producers and it was mutually agreed that he would leave the Love Island villa.”

Sherif added: “In a case of poor judgement, I broke the villa rules and as a result agreed with the producers that it was best for me to leave the villa.

“I regret that I didn’t conduct myself in the right way and, as a 20 year old guy, it’s something I know I will take on board and learn from.

“I really enjoyed my time in the villa and look forward to catching up with everyone on the outside,” he added.

It has been confirmed his exit will be referenced during Tuesday night’s episode, with a spokesperson telling HuffPost UK they will be making no further comment.

Sherif was one of this year’s original Islanders, entering the villa on day one of the series.

He coupled up with Anna Vakili, and while things were not immediately romantic between them, the last few days saw Sherif confess his attraction towards her.

It is not the first time a Love Island contestant has left the villa under mysterious circumstances.

Last year’s series saw Niall Aslam leave after the first week, citing “personal reasons” at the time.

Love Island airs Sunday to Friday at 9pm on ITV2.
