Luke Perry Dead: Riverdale And Beverly Hills 90210 Actor Dies, Aged 52

The US star was hospitalised last week, after suffering a stroke.

Beverly Hills 90210 and Riverdale actor Luke Perry has died at the age of 52, his representative has confirmed.

Last week, Luke was taken to hospital after paramedics were called to his home in Los Angeles, after suffering a stroke.

On Monday, his spokesperson confirmed the sad news that the actor had died, noting that his loved ones were present at the time of his death.

They said (via USA Today): “He was surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, Wendy Madison Bauer [his fiancée], ex-wife Minnie Sharp, mother Ann Bennett, step-father Steve Bennett, brother Tom Perry, sister Amy Coder, and other close family and friends.

“The family appreciates the outpouring of support and prayers that have been extended to Luke from around the world, and respectfully request privacy in this time of great mourning. No further details will be released at this time.”

Luke is best known for his role as Dylan McKay in the teen drama Beverly Hills, 90210, which he played for five years until he stepped down from the series in 1995.

He later returned for an additional two-year stint from 1998 to 2000.

More recently, Luke came to the attention of a new legion of fans as part of the cast of Riverdale, which airs on Netflix here in the UK.

In Riverdale, Luke starred as Fred Andrews, the father of the show’s main protagonist Archie, played by KJ Apa, a role he still held at the time of his death.

On the same day that Luke was first hospitalised, it had been announced that a rebooted version of Beverly Hills, 90210 was in the works, almost 20 years after it was last on the air.

However, while a number of Luke’s former co-stars have signed onto the project, including Jason Priestley, Jennie Garth and Tori Spelling, though it was reported that Luke had declined to take part.

In addition to his work in television, Luke also filmed a role in the upcoming Quentin Tarantino film Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, which is set in Los Angeles around the time of the Manson Family murders.

Luke is expected to appear posthumously as the real-life actor Wayne Maunder in the film, which also stars Brad Pitt, Leonardo DiCaprio and Margot Robbie.
