Madonna has blasted the New York Times, following their recent profile on her.
Earlier this week, the NYT published a lengthy interview with Madonna in which, among other things, she disclosed that film producer Harvey Weinstein had been inappropriate towards her when they collaborated on her 1991 documentary In Bed With Madonna.
However, the Queen of Pop has now criticised the piece, claiming it focussed too heavily on “trivial” details, and called out repeated references to her age as sexist.
Posting on Instagram, she wrote: “To say that I was disappointed in the article would be an understatement… It seems. You cant fix society And its endless need to diminish, disparage or degrade that which they know is good. Especially string independent women.
“The journalist who wrote this article spent days and hours and months with me and was invited into a world which many people don’t get to see, but chose to focus on trivial and superficial matters such as the ethnicity of my stand in or the fabric of my curtains and never ending comments about my age which would never have been mentioned had I been a MAN! Women have a really hard time being the champions of other women even if. they are posing as intellectual feminists [sic]”
Madonna also said she was “sorry she spent five minutes” with the reporter who did the interview, noting: “It makes me feel raped. And yes I’m allowed to use that analogy having been raped at the age of 19.”
She further branded the New York Times “one of the founding fathers of the Patriarchy”, adding: “DEATH TO THE PATRIARCHY woven deep into the fabric of Society. I will never stop fighting to eradicate it.”

Madonna spoke to the US publication ahead of the release of her new album Madame X.
So far, she’s also promoted her new music with a divisive performance at the Eurovision Song Contest final and an interview with British Vogue, in which she lambasted the ageism she regularly faces and addressed the sexual abuse allegations levelled against Michael Jackson.
