An alleged far-right terrorist has appeared in court accused of collecting white supremacist material and posting a song called ‘White Man’ online.
Tristan Morgan, from Exeter, is charged with two offences under terrorism legislation – encouraging an act of terrorism and collecting information likely to be useful for the purposes of terrorism.
Morgan, 51, appeared at the Old Bailey by video-link on Monday, and spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth, and that he was British during the brief hearing.
He is accused of collecting the White Resistance Manual, an online book similar to The Anarchists Cookbook for white supremacists.
He is charged with encouraging an act of terrorism because he allegedly uploaded “the song White Man to the website Soundcloud”.
The judge, Mr Justice Sweeney, set a date of July 1 for the trial, which is expected to last up to three weeks.
Morgan was remanded in custody and will next appear in court on February 1.
Superintendent Matt Lawler, from Devon and Cornwall Police, said: “I would like to reassure and stress to everyone that there is no increased threat to anyone’s safety as a result of this announcement today.
“I hope that everyone will understand that, given the nature of these charges and due to the ongoing court proceedings, we are legally not able to share any further specific information at this stage.
“It is crucial that we maintain the fairness of the court process and avoid unnecessary speculation.
“Further court hearings are planned, and we do intend to release further information when it is appropriate for us to do so.”
