He took about £7,000.

Israeli police have arrested a man after an individual held up two banks with an avocado and took nearly £7,000.

The robberies took place in Beersheba, southern Israel and saw the man hand over a misspelled note demanding the cashier hand over money.

When she appeared to hesitate, he brandished the fruit and told her: “Put the money in the bag quickly or I’ll throw this grenade,” the Times of Israel reports.

CCTV and mobile phone records led police to arrest a suspect.

A 47-year-old man is in custody and facing charges of aggravated robbery.

It’s not the first time household items have been used in such circumstances.

Last year Simon Jones used a bottle of Febreze to threaten staff at a branch of Natwest in County Durham.

Jones, who told the cashier the bottle contained acid, made off with £370 and a decoy £1,000 bundle that contained a tracking device.

He was arrested hours later and jailed for 40 months.

And in 2009 a would-be bank robber held a teaspoon to the neck of a cashier, pretending it was a knife.

However, the cashier was not fooled and scared the man away with her screaming, Polish newspaper Gazeta.pl reported.
