Do you remember earlier this year, when after a string of pop divas stole the show at the Super Bowl, the NFL decided to shake things up and have Justin Timberlake perform at the Halftime Show?

Do you remember the lukewarm (at best) reception his performance got on social media?

Well, reports are claiming that the Super Bowl is planning to bounce back with… Maroon 5.

Yes, Adam Levine and co. are all-but-confirmed to be joining the ranks of Beyoncé, Madonna, Lady Gaga and Prince by entertaining the nation at the Halftime of America’s biggest sporting event.

Variety was the first outlet to report that the group were in line to land the gig, while Billboard named Cardi B and Travis Scott - both of whom have collaborated with Maroon 5 on recent tracks - as potential guests to join them during the slot.

However, some critics on social media have been bemused by the rumour, to say the least...

But, of course, there are some who are excited by the prospect of a Maroon 5 Halftime show...

A representative for the NFL told multiple outlets: “It’s a Super Bowl tradition to speculate about the performers for the Pepsi Halftime Show.

“We are continuing to work with [longtime sponsor] Pepsi on our plans but do not have any announcements to make on what will be another epic show.”

Variety pointed out that this year, the NFL has “faced an additional challenge” while looking for a Halftime performer, as their decision to their reaction to players “taking a knee” during the National Anthem.

On his Beyoncé collaboration ‘APESHIT’, Jay-Z disclosed that he’d turned down an offer to perform at the event (“I said no to the Super Bowl, you need me I don’t need you”), while the track’s accompanying music video featured a scene of people “taking a knee”.
