Mel C has finally revealed why she will not be part of the upcoming Spice Girls reunion.

Emma Bunton, Mel B and Geri Horner announced they would be reforming to celebrate their 20th anniversary as a band earlier this year, with Mel C and Victoria Beckham deciding not to be part of the action.

Sporty Spice has now penned an essay on her decision not to reunite with her bandmates for Love magazine, admitting that she believes the Spices peaked with their performance at the London 2012 closing ceremony.

“I’d love to play huge arenas across the world, sing our brilliantly bonkers pop songs and relive our former glory - it is of course a very lucrative opportunity too,” she wrote.

“But we were a five-piece band. Didn’t we reach a peak with the Olympics? There’s a lot to be said for bowing out on a high note.

“For me the absolute pinnacle of my Spice existence was being watched by a billion people around the globe belting out ‘Spice Up Your Life’ on top of a black cab at the 2012 London Olympics.

“Anything less than the full line-up just didn’t feel like we’d be doing justice to the band or the fans.”

Mel admitted that she had entered discussions with Emma, Geri and Mel, but decided to not take part after Victoria announced she would not be involved.

She wrote: “The hardest part for me was letting people down, the girls, the fans, civilisation?!

“Unfortunately something didn’t feel quite right and I had to follow my gut.”

She added that she’d found the speculation about whether the girls would reunite for their 20th anniversary “exhausting”, questioning why they couldn’t just be remembered for their achievements in the 90s.

Mel will now be focusing on her solo career, but has thrown her support behind the remaining trio, insisting she “loves” the band and will “be a Spice Girl until [I] die.”

Earlier this month, it was claimed Mel C could be about to launch a lawsuit against Mel B, Emma and Geri to stop them from using the Spice Girls name for their reunion.

It isn’t yet known exactly what their reunion will entail, such as whether that includes live performances or new material, as at the moment all we have is a new website naming them as ‘Spice Girls GEM’.
