One woman who deserves all of the praise in the world is Thelma Chiaka, who gave birth to six babies (three sets of twins) in the space of just nine minutes on Friday morning in Houston in the US.
Chiaka gave birth at The Woman’s Hospital of Texas, where she welcomed sextuplets – the odds of which are estimated at one in 4.7 billion.
Two sets of twin boys and one set of twin girls arrived between 4.50 and 4.59am, and mum is reportedly doing well.
The tiny babies were born at weights ranging from one pound and 12 ounces, to two pounds and 14 ounces. The hospital confirmed they are in a stable condition and will continue to receive care in the hospital’s advanced neonatal intensive care unit.
Chiaka is yet to name her twin boys but confirmed she has named her daughters Zina and Zuriel.
Dr Ziad Haidar, Dr Sharmeel Khaira and Dr Israel Simchowitz have been praised for delivering the babies and caring for them.
After a photo of Chiaka was shared on Facebook, dozens of people commented on the fact she had some of the best doctors assisting her birth.
“Dr Simchowitz is the best neonatologist! He took care of my triplets,” one person commented. “Congrats!”
Another added: “Your babies are in excellent care. My son was born 26 weeks 1 lb 14 oz and they did a magnificent job caring for him. He is now a very energetic soon to be 8 month old.”
