Niall Horan took aim at US president Donald Trump over his past comments about climate change on the hottest day of the year.
On Thursday, temperatures in the UK reached their highest for a day in July on record, reaching 38.1°C in Cambridge, while the Met Office has said the all-time record of 38.5°C may still be broken over the course of the day.
Tweeting that afternoon, Niall referenced the heatwave and Trump’s past remarks about global warming, after the POTUS tweeted during the cold spell in January that it “wouldn’t be bad to have a little of that good old fashioned Global Warming right now!”.
In his tweet Niall wrote: “Hottest July day ever!! Yes you’re right @realDonaldTrump it’s only weather not global warming…”
In the past, Trump has posted several tweets which implied cold weather was evidence that climate change didn’t exist.
Last November, he wrote: “Brutal and Extended Cold Blast could shatter ALL RECORDS – Whatever happened to Global Warming”
A year earlier, he also tweeted: “In the East, it could be the COLDEST New Year’s Eve on record. Perhaps we could use a little bit of that good old Global Warming that our Country, but not other countries, was going to pay TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS to protect against.”
Niall previously took the US president to task over his comments on gun control in October 2018, following the shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh that took the lives of 11 people.
After Trump said the “results would have been far better” had there been “some kind of protection within the temple”, Niall tweeted: “Trump kept saying in his chat with reporters that if there was an armed guard inside the synagogue that the “numbers” would have been a lot lower .The fact is if there was no guns at all , there wouldn’t have been a shooter in the first place. Get a grip.”
