OnePlus might have a reputation for making flagship smartphones that are affordable but that doesn’t mean they’re behind the times.

In fact, if this leaked image of its latest phone is anything to go by then OnePlus could actually be leading over even some of the biggest companies like Apple and Samsung.

The image, leaked by WinFuture, shows the new OnePlus 6T, revealing a huge screen with only a tiny notch at the top, dual-cameras on the back and most importantly not a fingerprint scanner in sight.

Why is the absence of a fingerprint scanner so important? Well it’s because OnePlus has already confirmed that its next phone will contain a breakthrough new technology.

The OnePlus 6T does contain a fingerprint scanner but it will be embedded within the display itself. So when you unlock the phone you’ll be able to simply place your thumb on your display and a hidden reader underneath the screen then confirms your identity.

Apple also ditched the physical fingerprint scanner with the iPhone X but rather than embedding it to the screen it has adopted its own Face ID facial recognition system.

While this wouldn’t be the first phone to include the futuristic technology it will arguably be the first mass-market device for Europe and the US to use it.

OnePlus has always prided itself on offering what would be considered flagship smartphone features but at a price that doesn’t break the bank.

The OnePlus 6 cost just £469 but still offered a huge OLED full-screen display, state-of-the-art processor and even a ‘Portrait Mode’ that applied a bokeh effect to images.

It’s not clear when the OnePlus 6T will be released although if the 5T is anything to go by then it could be in the next couple of months.
