Is it another Wanksy?

Middlesborough Council has swiftly filled potholes in the city after a disgruntled road user spray-painted penises around them.

The graffiti was posted on the Teeside Connected Facebook page, much to the delight of its followers.

The council said a team was already in the area and had fixed them once they were reported.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Council, told the BBC: “Middlesbrough, like all local authority areas in the country, has issues with potholes and repairs are carried out on a priority basis determined by the risk they pose to highway users.

“Currently, however, we are carrying out pre-planned works in the Acklam area and staff were able to visit the nearby site on Fane Grove when the matter was reported to us and have patched over the hole.”

A similar campaign in 2015 saw a mystery street artist tackling what he describes as Manchester’s “appalling” pothole problem.

The anonymous spray-painter who has dubbed himself “Wanksy” sprang into action after several of his cyclist friends were badly injured on the roads.

He said: “I wanted to draw attention to the pothole and make it memorable. Nothing seemed to do this better than a giant comedy phallus. It’s also speedy. I don’t want to be in the road for a long time.”
