17 Times Pete Burns Was A Style Icon (And Definitely Knew It)

The ultimate 'Freak Unique'.

Pete Burns’ death, announced on Monday 24 October, has left both the music and fashion world in mourning.

The Dead Or Alive frontman passed away on Sunday 23 October from a cardiac arrest. He was only 57.

It may have been Burns’ musical prowess that shot him to superstardom in the 1980s, but his contributions to style will also never be forgotten.

Before he was a pop star, the fashion icon started his career as a clothing designer and Liverpool shop owner catering to the city’s punk scene.

Throughout his life, Burns broke every sartorial boundary - helping make way for the gender fluid movement prevailing today.

“Everyone’s in drag of some sorts,” he told the Guardian in 2007. “I don’t give a fuck about gender and drag. I’m not trying to be a girl by putting on a dress – gender is separated by fabric.”
