Phoebe Waller-Bridge has revealed she is creating a role for herself in the upcoming third series of Killing Eve.

The show’s creator has so far resisted appearing in the hit BBC series, but that is all set to change when it returns to our screens in 2020.

And it is set to be an iconic appearance too, as she wants her character to become a victim of assassin Villanelle, played by Jodie Comer.

In an interview with The Mirror, she teased: “I was like, I am going to write myself a part so that I can be murdered by Jodie.”

As well as adapting Luke Jennings’ Codename Villanelle novels for TV, Phoebe also served as the head writer on the first season of Killing Eve, and continues to serve as its executive producer.

Phoebe went on to reveal she had initially considered casting herself as Villanelle or MI5 agent Eve Polastri (Sandra Oh), having previously played the lead role in her other hit series Fleabag.

She said: “I just had a really strong instinct that there should be this age gap because I just felt like it was something I hadn’t seen. I’m not a 25-year-old Jodie Comer – I mean, let’s be frank.

“And I don’t know if I could have scaled a wall quite like she could have done, and I’m not in my early 40s either.”

The second series of Killing Eve has already aired in the US and is currently available to stream in the UK on BBC iPlayer, with episodes also airing weekly on BBC One each Saturday.

A third series of the show has also been confirmed, with another writer – Fear The Walking Dead’s Suzanne Heathcote – taking over the story from season two’s Emerald Fennell.

Meanwhile, Phoebe is currently working on the writing team on the upcoming James Bond film, which is slated for release in 2020.
