Piers Morgan Forced To Apologise To Lady Gaga After Her One World: Together At Home Event Raises Over £100m

The Good Morning Britain host had originally slammed the singer for helping to organise the event, asking if she'd "found a cure" for coronavirus.

You’re about as likely to hear an apology from Piers Morgan as you are to find pasta on the supermarket shelves these days, but the Good Morning Britain presenter did just that on Sunday evening.

And the lucky recipient? Take a bow, Lady Gaga.

Piers had a slice of humble pie after the US singer helped raise $127m (£102m) for coronavirus relief when she helped organise the One World: Together At Home event.

The live-streamed virtual concert, a collaboration with Global Citizen, saw musicians from around the world performing from inside their homes.

When Gaga originally announced the planned event, Piers dismissed her involvement, asking: “Has she found a cure?”

But after the BBC showed highlights from the event on Sunday evening, the presenter did a 180 and apologised to the Stupid Love singer.

“I owe you an apology @ladygaga,” he tweeted. “This was a great initiative that raised a fortune, entertained people, and will help save lives.”

He continued: “It was also a perfect illustration of a major star using their profile properly in this crisis. Congrats.”

Following the weekend’s event, Gaga celebrated the money raised, tweeting: “I am so humbled to have been a part of this project. Thank you @GlblCtzn. Thank you @WHO. I love you.”

The money raised will support the Covid-19 Response Fund, powered by the UN Foundation, which will globally fund essential PPE, supplies and testing kits.
