Piers Morgan has lifted the lid on his recent meeting with Ariana Grande, revealing the lesson she attempted to teach him about feminism.
Last month, Piers and Ariana – who had previously exchanged heated words on social media – surprised everyone when they disclosed that they’d sat down for a two-hour conversation together, after bumping into each other at a restaurant in the US.
Speaking on Tuesday’s Good Morning Britain, Piers revealed more about what they spoke about, including a comment from Ariana about the importance of including men in feminism.
“We had a really interesting conversation for two hours,” Piers told co-host Susanna Reid. “We sat down and she said to me that the key thing she believed about feminism and the battle for equality and everything that’s going on... was that woman need to bring men with them.
“When the debate strays into man denigration or man hating, it puts off a lot of guys. Whereas if women go, ‘Look, we want fairness and equality, we want you to come with us, we want you to be part of this journey’... I think that’s a much better sales pitch to men.”
Hmmm… we’re not sure that the fight for equality should really require a “sales pitch”, but we’re at least relieved to hear that Piers is starting to broaden his horizons a little.
Piers and Ariana first came to blows on Twitter towards the end of last year, when he criticised Little Mix’s Strip music video, which saw the band posing nude with insulting terms they’ve previously been called written on their bodies.
While Piers accused the group of “using sex to sell records”, Ariana jumped to their defence.
Following her two-hour sit-down with Piers, Ariana faced a backlash from some fans, who questioned why she’d sat down with someone who had previously made such controversial statements in the past, prompting the Thank U Next singer to stick up for herself on social media.
