Piers Morgan has taunted “sneering” Steve Coogan and Hugh Grant over the result of the election.
Four Weddings And A Funeral star Hugh and Alan Partridge creator Steve had been high-profile advocates of tactical voting in a bid to prevent a Tory majority.
However, Piers claimed the pair had helped prime minister Boris Johnson to achieve a landslide victory after Britain took to the polls on Thursday.
Speaking on Friday’s edition of Good Morning Britain, he said: “Can we get to my favourite part of this, which is the contribution of Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan who believed that their Hollywood star power could defy democracy.
“Chuka Umunna was boasting with his selfies with Hugh Grant who said ‘I’m here to save the country’.
“His reaction was ‘there goes the neighbourhood’. Well actually there goes his credibility. What we’ve discovered, as Hillary Clinton discovered, is celebrities can have the opposite effect.
“Entitled millionaires telling us our vote doesn’t count, doesn’t work.
“Coogan was so sneering about Brexiteers, he called them stupid and thick...he said his character Alan Partridge was basically like them, ignorant. I watched that and thought ’my god imagine if you’re a working class Northern Labour voter who voted Leave... you’ve got this multi-millionaire entitled Hollywood brat telling you that your vote doesn’t count.
“Well good morning Mr Coogan, good morning Mr Grant, it turns what you said didn’t count.”
Over the summer, Hugh made headlines when he branded Boris Johnson an “over-promoted rubber bath toy”.
This, of course, swiftly caught the attention of Piers, who sarcastically referred to the actor as “Halo Hugh… Britain’s moral standard-bearer”, posting a photo of his infamous mug shot, following his arrest in 1995 after being caught with a sex worker.
After getting no reply, Piers – clearly pleased with himself – made the same joke two months later, again not getting any response from the Bafta-winning star.
They have since clashed various times on Twitter in the lead up to the election.
