Police Say Body Discovered In Woods Wrapped In Plastic Is Missing Chef Hiran Chauhan

Police have arrested a man on suspicion of murder after finding a body in the woods in Salford. Hiran Chauhan, 24, was reported missing on July 4.

The body of a man discovered in woodland in the Salford area of Manchester is believed to be a missing chef.

Hiran Chauhan, 24, was reported missing on Thursday July 4 after he didn’t return home following a shift at El Capo restaurant in the Northern Quarter.

He was last seen at around 11.10pm on Tuesday July 2 at Cornbrook Metrolink Station.

Police investigating following the discovery of a body found wrapped in plastic and dumped near woodland near Eccles Old Road, Salford on Tuesday morning have now made an arrest.

The body was found wrapped in plastic at around 8am after a discovery by school children using the wood as a short cut.

A 32-year-old man from the Salford area has been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in custody for questioning.

While formal identification is yet to take place, police believe it to be the body of Chauhan. His family have been informed. A police scene remains in place at the location.

Detective Chief Inspector Colin Larkin, of Greater Manchester Police Major Incident Team, said: “This is a tragic and shocking incident and our most heartfelt thoughts are with Hiran’s family at what is an unimaginably difficult time.

“People in the Eccles Old Road area will continue to see an increased police presence while further enquiries are conducted.

“We have arrested a man in connection with this incident and continue to appeal for information from the public.

“We understand that this is a heinous incident and I’d like to reassure people that we have a team of highly-skilled detectives and forensics experts working on this case.

“If you noticed something suspicious or have any information that may assist our enquiries, then please get in touch as a matter of urgency.”

Police have issued an appeal for any video footage captured in the area.
