Prada Is Latest Designer To Go Fur Free

It joins Burberry, Versace, Gucci, Chanel and others.

Prada has announced that from February 2020 it will no longer use animal fur including mink, fox and rabbit in any of its designs or products.

The Italian luxury fashion house – who also own Miu Miu, Church’s and Car Shoe – follows in the footsteps of other international brands including Burberry and London Fashion Week who both ditched fur in September 2018.

At the time the Humane Society also encouraged Prada to follow suit but they’ve only just made the announcement.

Miuccia Prada said: “The Prada Group is committed to innovation and social responsibility, and our fur-free policy is an extension of that engagement.

“Focusing on innovative materials will allow the company to explore new boundaries of creative design while meeting the demand for ethical products.”

The Humane Society says mink, fox and rabbits all suffer on fur farms where they are trapped in small, wire cages.

Since the beginning of 2017, Burberry, Versace, Gucci, Chanel, Coach, Donna Karan, Michael Kors, Jimmy Choo, Diane von Furstenberg and others have stopped using fur.

Designers still selling fur in the UK include Fendi, Max Mara, Celine, Valentino, Yves Saint Laurent, and Dolce & Gabbana.

Claire Bass, executive director of Humane Society International/UK, said “Anti-fur policies like Prada Groups’s prove that forgoing fur isn’t a fast-fashion trend, it’s a step change to meet the demands of ever more socially and environmentally conscious consumers.

“As well as being unspeakably cruel, fur is also a nightmare for the environment, using and producing a cocktail of pollutants.”
