Reggie Yates has admitted he does not think 'Top Of The Pops' should return to TV, despite music fans' pleas for it to make a comeback.
A weekly music show has not aired since 'TOTP' was axed in 2006, and there has been much speculation recently about whether BBC bosses could be planning to revive the series.
However, Reggie now has claimed that music has moved on since the show finished, though he is happy to see it continue airing in its current form, with annual Christmas and New Year specials.
Speaking to Digital Spy, he said: "Music has changed. There's a generation of people who don't quite understand how it's changed but it has changed and kids are consuming music in a very different way now.
Reggie added that things such as YouTube streams and Spotify streams tells us more about how modern music fans are consuming music, stating: "The chart is in a very transitional phase, so if there were ever a time to bring back 'Top of the Pops', I don't think it's now."
Earlier this year, a BBC boss also told of his hopes to revive 'TOTP', inspired by the successful revamp ‘Top Gear’ had when it was brought back in 2002, and the positive response to the recent Adele special on BBC One.
He told The Telegraph: “If just bringing back ‘Top Of The Pops’ was such a straightforward and obvious thing to do, somebody on some channel would have done it.
“The challenge is to find a new way to bring it to mainstream audiences. We’re going to have to find a new twist.”
Reggie's co-host Fearne Cotton and 'X Factor' presenter Dermot O'Leary have also been mooted as possible hosts.
Radio 1 DJ Nick Grimshaw also recently revealed he was “in talks” to front a new ‘TOTP’-style show for the modern age.
