Roxanne Pallett Quits 'Celebrity Island' After Campfire Triggers Painful Childhood Memories

'I never thought going on this show would open up a box I’d tucked away years ago.'

Roxanne Pallett was undoubtedly the biggest talking point of this year’s ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, but she made an appearance in another reality show on Sunday night.

The former ‘Emmerdale’ star was one of the 10 celebrities taking part in the new series of ‘Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls’, filmed months before her stint in the ‘CBB’ house.

However, she didn’t last long on the island, bowing out after five days when a campfire triggered painful memories of an incident from her teenage years, when she and her family suffered a fire at their home.

Speaking to the camera, Roxanne tearfully recalled: “I never thought going on the Island would open up a box I’d tucked away years ago… the smoke was so thick it was stinging my eyes.”

She added: I just kept thinking about that night when we were trapped in our home and we couldn’t take in another breath because every breath [could have been] our last.”

Roxanne had a tough time on 'Celebrity Island'

Following her appearance on ‘Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls’, Roxanne was involved in a stock car crash, after which she was airlifted to hospital.

The ensuing media attention led her to be signed up for this year’s “eye of the storm”-themed ‘Celebrity Big Brother’, which she eventually left of her own accord, after accusing fellow housemate Ryan Thomas of “punching” her in the ribs “repeatedly” and “deliberately”.

After leaving the house, Roxanne conceded that these accusations were a “mistake” and an “exaggeration”, while she has since quit her morning radio show and an upcoming role in a pantomime to “reflect” on her actions.

Coincidentally, Ryan was also previously a contestant on last year’s ‘Celebrity Island With Bear Grylls’, which is where he met his girlfriend, Lucy Mecklenburgh.
