Sex And The City cast members Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon have announced that a revival of the classic show is in the works.

Late on Sunday night, the trio shared the same video on social media, confirming long-standing rumours that new episodes featuring their characters are coming to US streaming service HBO Max.

Rather than a straight-up Sex And The City reboot, the 10-part series will be called And Just Like That…, in a nod to one of Carrie Bradshaw’s catchphrases.

Kim Cattrall, who played Samantha Jones in the original series and its subsequent spin-off films, will not be back for the new show, having made no secret of her lack of interest in returning to Sex And The City.

Instead, The Hollywood Reporter has said that And Just Like That… will “follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate friendship in their 50s”.

Sarah Aubrey, the head of original content at HBO Max, said: “I grew up with these characters, and I can’t wait to see how their story has evolved in this new chapter, with the honesty, poignancy, humour and the beloved city that has always defined them.”

Sex And The City originally ran for six series between 1998 and 2004, with two films based on the show following in 2008 and 2010.

While the first film was largely well-received by fans, the sequel received a much frostier reception.

And Just Like That... will not feature Kim Cattrall, instead focusing on a central trio played by SJP, Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis.

A third was heavily rumoured to be in the works in 2017, though these plans fell apart when Kim Cattrall said she had no interest in playing Samantha again.

Since then, there’s been something of a public falling out between the four cast members, with SJP admitting she’d been “upset” when Kim said in an interview that she and the Carrie Bradshaw star had “never been friends”.

No launch date has been confirmed for And Just Like That…, with the teaser clip featuring no new footage of the central stars.
