“I’m so proud to be on the show, it’s my family’s favourite show. I have no dance experience at all, but I hope I can do well. I want to inspire people with a disability- that would mean a lot to me. I want to prove to people I can do this.”

She said: “Getting to do Strictly in my favourite place on Earth is an actual DREAM! I’m so excited to show that being 50 doesn’t mean life stops. Things may not work like they did when I was 20, but 50 also means ‘FABULOUS!’

“There are plenty of women like me out there who still ‘got it’ and we still ‘plan to use it!’ so slap on the sequins, point me to the dance floor and watch me Paso my Doble!”

Michelle is best known for appearing as a judge on Drag Race alongside best friend RuPaul since 2011, after originally finding fame as a member of the band Seduction.

She and RuPaul are also set to launch a UK version of Drag Race on BBC Three this October.

Strictly is the second UK reality show Michelle will have competed on, as she appeared on Celebrity Big Brother back in 2015, where she finished in fifth place.

Most recently, she has appeared as a judge on the first two seasons of Ireland’s Got Talent and earlier this year, she made her West End debut as Miss Hedge in Everybody’s Talking About Jamie.

Also on the line-up are BBC Breakfast star Mike Bushell, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual and chef Viscountess Emma Weymouth.

There are many other names still rumoured to be on the line-up, including Made In Chelsea star Jamie Laing, broadcaster Anneka Rice and Atomic Kitten singer Natasha Hamilton.

Other names for the series will be announced in the coming days.

Strictly Come Dancing returns to BBC One in the autumn.
