The Chase star Anne Hegerty has claimed she was threatened with suspension from the ITV quiz show after replying to negative comments on Twitter.
The quiz expert claims channel bosses weren’t happy with a message she posted on Twitter last month, and was “ordered” to delete it.
Asked about replying to abuse, she told ITV’s Lorraine: “I’ve been known to get in trouble for doing that.
“I tweeted a tweet last month, it got 25,000 likes, before ITV ordered me to take it down and threatened me with suspension, so I took it down.
“Sometimes you don’t always know what’s appropriate or what people will find appropriate or not.
“One is not actually trying to upset the source of one’s bread and butter.”
Anne did not specify which tweet landed her in hot water with show bosses, but last month she called one user on the social networking site a “c***”, after they made derogatory comments about her I’m A Celebrity campmate Emily Atack.
Emily had announced she would be playing Debbie Harry in a new season of Sky Arts’ Urban Myths, but was told by a troll she was “not pretty enough”.
Anne then replied: “What a sad c*** you are, Steve.”
ITV declined to comment on the matter when contacted by HuffPost UK.
Anne recently pledged her allegiance to The Chase, following claims she was set to retire from TV work after her stint on I’m A Celebrity last year.
During her time in the Australian jungle, Anne won widespread praise for speaking candidly about living with autism.
She also admitted that having her fellow campmates testing on her quizzing knowledge, for which she is famed, had helped her adjust to the tough environment.
The Chase airs every weekday at 5pm on ITV.
