Filming has begun on the third and final series of ‘The Fall’, starring Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan in Allan Cubitt’s critically acclaimed thriller.
Series 3 is set to air in the autumn, and the two leads will be joined this time around by Krister Henriksson (Wallander), Aidan McArdle (Mr Selfridge), Ruth Bradley (Humans), Aisling Bea (Trollied) and Richard Coyle (Crossbones) in the hit BBC Two drama.
The action picks up at the moment where it stopped at the jaw-dropping climax of Series 2, when Detective Superintendent Gibson (Anderson) thought she finally had her culprit, Paul Spector (Dornan). She’d finally hunted him down, before, in a deadly ambush, he lay bleeding in her arms.
Colin Morgan will feature as Detective Sergeant Tom Anderson, with series regulars John Lynch, Valene Kane, Stuart Graham, Bronagh Waugh and Aisling Franciosi also set to return.
Jamie Dornan was an almost unknown face when he appeared in the first series of ‘The Fall’. However, following his convincing performance, he was cast as Christian Grey in the big screen adaptation of the ‘Fifty Shades’ trilogy and has become a huge star worldwide.
The third and final series will have five episodes, being filmed as before in Belfast. ‘The Fall’ enjoyed record audiences for BBC Two on its first two outings, and Allan Cubitt is looking forward to tying up the loose ends in this dark, compulsive tale. He says:
“I’ve been on a very exciting journey over the last five years with Stella Gibson and Paul Spector - the central characters of The Fall - and I’m thrilled to have recently started filming the third instalment of their macabre, obsessive dance of death. Gillian and Jamie have lived and breathed those characters during that time and I’ve been incredibly well-served as both writer and director by their stellar performances.
“Obviously I don’t want to give anything away about how the third series will end but I can say that I am looking forward to working with both Gillian and Jamie again in the near future!”
