Channel 4 has announced that they won’t be reviving The Jump, its notorious winter sports-based reality show.
The Jump – which quickly garnered a reputation as the most dangerous show on telly due to multiple stars injuring themselves during training – was last on our screens in 2017, after which Channel 4 said they’d be resting it for a year.
However, with 2019 now here, and no sign of a new series, Channel 4’s director of programmes Ian Katz has said it’s not going to be back any time soon.
“You can never say never,” he told The Mirror, adding: “But we’ve got no plans [to bring back The Jump].”
Over the years, a number of celebrities were forced to pull out of The Jump after suffering injuries during training, most notably during its third series, when a total of seven contestants withdrew from the show.
Among these was former Olympic gymnast Beth Tweddle, who was left in need of surgery on her neck and spinal cord when she crashed into a barrier during training.
Three years on, Beth announced last month that she is taking legal action against The Jump, claiming they have refused to accept responsibility for her injuries.
Beth said of the matter: “It’s been a long journey and my recovery is still ongoing. I’m not sure I’ll ever be 100% again.
“The effects of my accident still interrupt my daily life and aside from the severe physical injuries at the start, the hardest part of the recovery process has been the psychological element, dealing with and processing the whole accident and the aftermath of what happened.
“I said before that I don’t want this accident to define me and I work hard every day to ensure that isn’t the case.”
A spokesperson for production company Twofour told HuffPost UK at the time: “This matter is being dealt with by our insurers and we are unable to comment as the claim is ongoing.”
Beth’s fellow contestant Tina Hobley also sustained an injury during the same series, admitting shortly afterwards that she too was considering taking legal action against the show.
